Stewart Independent Production Turns to Polar Focus

SAUGATUCK, MI – Shannon Stewart of Stewart Independent Production was seeking a better solution than conventional rigging allows when flying a line array on a lift tower. He found the solution with the Polar Focus Spine Frame Adapter. “The Spine Frame Adapter design is flawless in its ease of attachment, pan and tilt capability and control,” Stewart explains. “The mounting bracket goes on the tower in seconds securely and with redundant safety chains.”

Says Shannon Stewart of Stewart Independent Production, “When flying line array from Genie ST20 Super Towers, or any lift tower for that matter, we wanted a better solution than conventional rigging allows. We want fast consistent, safe, rigid rigging points that allow for great pan and tilt capabilities that can easily be adjusted on the ground or at trim and easily matched tower to tower.”

Stewart says they contacted Polar Focus Rigging and found their solution with the Spine Frame Adapter. “They have a very cool crank tower line array mount with a spine frame that allows for two in-line rigging points and everything we were looking for as mentioned above and more.”

The crank-lift mounting bracket holds up to 800 lbs. It is custom fabricated based on comparing tower manufacturer specs with the measurement of actual fork-play in the client’s own lift towers of the same model.

Bracket for Danley JH-90

Here’s a bracket with full tilt control for the amazing 720 pound Danley Sound Labs, Inc. JH90 speaker. The Danley JH-90 “Jericho Horn” has six 18″ drivers, six 6″ midrange drivers and three coaxial high frequency drivers with 1.4″ exits coupled to Danley’s patented layered high frequency combiner. This is going to be installed by McClelland Sound at the Dodge City Memorial Stadium in Dodge City, Kansas. When mounted to the top of a W10x49 column, the speaker will have full pan and tilt control and can be locked into position.

The complete bracket system will be disassembled, hot dip galvanized for corrosion protection, reassembled with stainless steel hardware, and shipped to the customer.

We hope they enjoy their totally awesome new sound system over in Dodge City!

JBL VRX Line Arrays at NYU Law

Great photos of a recent install of JBL line arrays at the Tishman Auditorium at New York University School of Law.  Polar Focus worked with Jim Anderson at HB Communications in North Haven, CT to supply Wall Mounts and our Blackbird frame, an aftermarket frame for JBL VRX 932 and 918S series line arrays.

Designed for increased functionality and lower installation cost, the OJB-VRX-932 is a replacement array frame for the JBL VRX-AF used with the JBL VRX-932/918S loudspeaker family. The OJB-VRX- 932 fastens to the loudspeakers using the M10 threaded holes in the top of the JBL speakers, bypassing the lighter weight clips between speakers. The bolt-in method also addresses potential erosion on the aluminum JBL VRX-AF frame by those steel clips at the area of steel to aluminum contact.

The OJB-VRX-932 features infinitely adjustable tilt control while under load without requiring re-rigging the cluster, or using chain hoists. When attached to supporting XY Grid® family hardware, the OJB-VRX-932 can be pan adjusted in seconds without
re-rigging anything.

Product Spotlight – PM2-10-Z Pole Mount

Polar Focus PM2-10-Z Pole Mount is designed to be attached to poles as small as 4 inches in diameter. It is primarily used to mount one or two weather-rated loudspeakers that utilize a yoke or U-bracket.  If you ever have to pole mount speakers, lights, or video screens on permanent poles or poles in tents, you’ll like this great new product!

Polar Focus PM2-10-Z is mounted to the pole with 3/16 inch rigging rated
stainless steel chain within a high pressure UV rated rubber hose. The chain is
tightened by an internal bolt carrier, allowing seamless installation and removal.

The contact surface between the pole and the mount is protected from corrosion and abrasion by a UV rated rubber hose. No metal components contact the pole, preserving
the finish of the poles and complying with the latest pole warranty requirements.

Polar Focus PM2-10-Z Pole Mount can accept a variety of combinations to suit site specifications. Yoke mounted speakers can be attached to the top and bottom of the beam. Multiple mounts may be attached to a single pole at the same height to meet high concentration demands. The PM2-10 will accept any yoke up to 20″ wide that utilizes standard ½ inch or M10 axle hardware. Holes within the PM2-10 allow audio wiring to be run through the interior of the mount for a clean installation.

Polar Focus Pole Mounts are most effective on tapered poles, but can be used on
cylindrical poles in certain conditions. Easily fits tapered poles from 4 inch diameter to 10 inch diameter.  For 10″+ diameter poles, the PM2-10 is your best value for rigging small speakers onto a large pole. Chain and hose kits sold separately depending on
pole diameter.

Product Spotlight – Zbeam Hawk

Never take down a line array for aiming adjustments again!

Polar Focus Zbeam Hawk allows for adjustment of pan and tilt under full load of conventional line arrays which have a center spine. The center spine pattern is
common on Bose, D&B, EAW, JBL, Meyer, QSC, etc. line array frames.

Features of the Polar Focus Zbeam Hawk:

1) Service eye to lift cluster into place.
2) Dead hang eyes for permanent suspension.
3) Location of pan axle, allows for 360° rotation under full load. Includes a friction bearing so that the cluster will not ‘free spin’. The friction bearing works in a similar manner to your car’s sun visor.  Push it, it turns. Let it go, it stays.
4) Fixed slot, accepts 3/8” to 3/4” shackle.
5) Slot on adjustable carriage, accepts 3/8” – 3/4” shackles. Adjust position to fit line array of the day.
6) Adjustable position center carriage. Allows for tilt adjustment under full load, as accurate as 1/10 of a degree.

The Hawk has 360° pan control, with a friction bearing. The friction bearing works like your car sun visor; when you push, it turns, when you let go, it stays. The Hawk accepts shackles from 3/8 to 3/4 inches. The lower half of the Hawk allows for infinite adjustment of tilt under full load. Adjustments of 5, 2, 1, or even 1/10th of a degree are possible under full load.

The Zbeam Hawk also functions as a line array extension bar. The front of the Hawk supports the back of the line array, and the back of the Hawk supports the lower pullback point for line arrays with extreme downangles. The Hawk can effectively add 16 inches of depth to a standard line array frame while retaining pan and tilt control under full load. You`ll never have to take down a line array to re-aim it again.

With a WLL of 1100 lbs and a design factor of 10:1, the Hawk is useful with most installed line arrays today. A larger version with a 3,000 lb WLL is also available.  Another model, the Rocker Hawk, is liftable with two motors for portable applications.
